# Free Processing Trial

> Understand your organization's shared allowance, eligible assets and settled-payment fee reporting.

Mint's free processing trial covers the Mint processing fee on eligible payment
volume. The allowance measures payment principal, not the fees saved or an
amount you can withdraw. Partner fees and payer costs keep their normal rules.

Newly approved organizations receive the trial configured by Mint, initially
30 days or \$5,000 of covered settled volume, whichever comes first. Organizations
already approved before the feature's release keep their existing pricing
unless Mint assigns a trial. Your organization's saved allowance and duration
are shown in the dashboard.

## Eligible settlement assets

One allowance is shared by every checkout in your organization:

| Settlement chain | Eligible asset | Token decimals | Availability |
| ---------------- | -------------- | -------------- | -------------------------------- |
| Base | Native USDC | 6 | Live payments |
| Polygon | Native USDC | 6 | Live payments |
| Polygon | USDT | 6 | Live payments |
| Base Sepolia | MintMock | 18 | Mint dev/local environments only |

Each eligible token counts as \$1. Eligibility uses the configured token's chain,
address and decimals, rather than its symbol; bridged USDC and other tokens do
not qualify just because they use the same name. MintMock is a development asset
and is not eligible in production. Test-mode payments do not consume the trial.

The trial applies only when the ordinary Mint fee would be positive. A payment
that already has a zero Mint fee does not consume the allowance. Adding a
checkout or changing settlement chains does not create another trial.

## Remaining allowance and the trial clock

While your trial is waiting or active, the **Free trial** button beside the
dashboard's Live/Test selector shows the remaining allowance. Open it to see
Used, In progress, the budget, duration and dates. These values are shared
across checkouts and are independent of dashboard date and Live/Test filters.

* **Used** is trial-covered principal from settled payments in the current trial.
* **In progress** is covered principal on other payments' current instructions.
Unpaid instructions count while their quote is valid. Confirming or deferred
  payments keep counting until settlement.
* **Remaining** is the greater of zero and Budget minus Used minus In progress.

The clock starts when the trial's first covered live payment settles, rather
than at signup, approval or instruction creation. In-progress payments can use
the available allowance before the clock starts. If they fill it, new
instructions use standard fees while the trial remains waiting or active.
Expiry of an unpaid quote can make allowance available again.

Usage is measured in millionths of a dollar. MintMock amounts finer than that
round up per covered payment: 1.000000000000000001 MintMock counts as \$1.000001
both in progress and after settlement. Payment records still use native token
units.

Refunds do not replenish Used. Returned overpayments and dust do not add usage.
The allowance is a budget target: simultaneous quotes or delayed observation
of on-time payments can exceed it. Already issued instructions keep their
saved fees within the existing payment deadlines.

## Full coverage, partial coverage and waived fees

Mint covers the smaller of the eligible payment principal and Remaining.
Fully covered principal has no Mint percentage or minimum fee. For partial
coverage, the uncovered principal pays the ordinary percentage or minimum Mint
fee, whichever is higher, once per payment. The minimum valid payment size and
settlement safety protections still apply.

For example, with $20 remaining, a $30 payment, a 1% Mint rate and a $0.05
minimum fee, $20 is covered and the remaining $10 incurs a $0.10 Mint fee.
The normal fee on the whole payment would have been $0.30, so the saved fee is
$0.20. Referrer fees, when applicable, are calculated on their normal basis.

**Standard fees** applies ordinary pricing to new instructions. **Fees waived**
is a separate ongoing Mint-fee waiver on live settlement assets; it does not
consume the trial budget. These modes are controlled by Mint. Organization
members can read the allowance but cannot edit pricing or grant themselves
additional coverage.

## A replacement trial starts fresh

When Mint explicitly saves a Free trial for your organization, it starts a
fresh allowance with the entered budget and duration, even if those values
are unchanged. Used and In progress start at zero, the full budget is
available, and the clock waits for that trial's own first covered settlement.

For example, after $0.20 and $0.80 use up a $1 trial, a new $2 trial shows
Used $0, In progress $0, Remaining \$2 and **Waiting to start**.

Historical payments remain available. Instructions issued under an earlier
trial retain their agreed fees, but their later settlement does not consume
or start the replacement trial. Switching to Standard fees or Fees waived
preserves the current trial's usage and history; explicitly saving Free trial
again creates a new trial. Trials do not renew automatically.

## Warnings, completion and integration

The dashboard shows warnings near the time or settled-volume limit. Once the
trial ends, its header button disappears and new instructions use standard
fees. Existing instructions keep their saved price and existing deadlines.
Authorized organization members can dismiss the end notice for the organization.

Current organization Admins can also receive best-effort warning and end
emails. Emails are checked after settlements or Mint updates, without a timer
or delivery retry; use the dashboard for the current allowance state.

Settled-payment details, the settlement API and
[`payment.paid` webhooks](/getting-started/webhooks) report the
actual Mint fee, fee treatment, covered principal and waived Mint fee. These
amounts use the settlement token's native base units. A previous trial's
payment can still report `free_trial` after a replacement trial starts; its
historical treatment does not mean it consumed the new allowance.

No integration change is needed to enable trial pricing. Keep using verified
`payment.paid` events for fulfilment and tolerate the additive fee fields as
described in the [webhook guide](/getting-started/webhooks).
